WESTON Sea Cadets band were recognised in several categories as they joined their first competition since Covid.
On Saturday, July 20, Weston-super-Mare Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets took part in their first band competition since Covid, the South West Area Band Competition July 2024 at HMS Raleigh.
They were rewarded with the following results:
2nd Best Dressed Band
2nd Corps of Drums
3rd Drum Major CFC Alice
1st Novice Band
3rd Overall
A message from the Sea Cadets read: “On the unit’s return, it was decided that we would wait until the February 2023 to start the band back up, as most of the cadets that came along were new to the unit and never played an instrument until then.
“Cadets made a goal to lead the town's Remembrance parade which they achieved in November.
“The next goal is the South West Area Band Competition July 2024 at HMS Raleigh, some of the cadets changed instruments but all the band were determined to get to the competition.
“The cadets and CFAV dedication to learning the instruments of their choice as well as a band routine for the competition has been outstanding.”
