A former Weston-super-Mare player is one of eight new 'Golden Ballers' featured in football trading card company Panini's latest edition.

Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, who played for Weston-super-Mare on loan during the 2014/15 season, was among the eight footballers Panini predicts will light up the Premier League this year.

His card features in Panini’s Premier League Adrenalyn XL™ Official Trading Card Game collection for the 2024/25 season.

The other Golden Ballers are Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, Alexis Mac Allister, Kobbie Mainoo, Martin Ødegaard, Cole Palmer, and Son Heung-min.

This season's collection includes 18 special card categories, including Model Pros, Breakthroughs, and Invincible.

It also benefits from a full redesign, new materials, and more new real autographs for collectors to chase.

Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister, one of the Golden Ballers, said: "I couldn't be more thrilled about being a Panini Golden Baller!

"As a kid, collecting Panini trading cards meant everything to me.

"I still remember those moments with my brothers, when we'd swap cards and I'd end up with my Dad's, who was a player.

"Those were magical, unforgettable times.

"It's incredible to think that not so long ago I was trading cards with my mates, dreaming of completing the collection.

"Now, being part of such an amazing group of players and knowing that my card will be one of the rarest this season is an immense honour, a goal I've always desired."

Katie Gritt, head of marketing for sport at Panini, said: "We are so excited to announce that the Panini Premier League Adrenalyn XL™ 2024/25 Official Trading Card Game has arrived!

"We’ve packed the collection full of exciting new categories celebrating every team in the Premier League, with the new collection featuring updated materials and innovative new finishes to take the product up another level.

"We can’t wait to see collectors’ reactions as they hunt down their favourite players and special cards.

"What better way to celebrate the start of the new Premier League season!"

The 2024/25 trading card packets come with a QR code giving access to virtual cards for the online game.
