A MINI recycling centre in Weston-super-Mare has been removed “due to repeated misuse and contamination of the bins”.
The centre in North Street will be removed on September 2 and North Somerset Council will offer residents living in the area alternative recycling arrangements.
A spokesperson for North Somerset Council said: “We’ve had to make the decision to remove the mini recycling centre in North Street in Weston-super-Mare, due to repeated misuse and contamination of the bins.
“This impacts around 100 properties in North Street, Palmer Street, Palmer Row and Waterloo Street.
“We’ve written to people living there, offering them alternative recycling arrangements.
“When our officer was hand delivering the letters, they spoke with many local people who were supportive of the decision.
“Residents will be able to recycle all the same materials that could be recycled at the mini recycling centre through kerbside recycling collections instead.
“The mini recycling centre will be removed on Monday, September 2 and the site will be thoroughly cleansed. We’ll also continue to monitor the site.”
