Heavy defeats on two rinks proved costly for St Andrews Bowling Club as they lost by 11 points at home to Ashcombe Crusaders in the Weston and District Over-55s League this week.
The Saints managed 90 points from the six rinks, but it wasn’t quite enough as Ashcombe made it 101, giving them the 11-point win.
However, despite the loss, St Andrews earned six league points through victories by skips Gordon Wride, Tony Ware and Del Johns.
Wride’s squad narrowly won 17-16, Ware’s team dominated to win their ends 21-5, whilst Johns’ team made a remarkable comeback.
The Johns squad of himself, Larry Fisher, and Alan Dawes came back from 4-11 down at halfway to score 13 shots in the next four ends and eventually win 23-14.
Other than the game against Ashcombe it was a quiet week at St Andrews, with the scheduled Presidents’ Shield match against Winscombe cancelled by the opponents.
The big news off the green was members Brian Cracknell and Tracy Brooks flying out to the Greek island of Zante for their wedding this week.
