Almost 50 years since the end of the 60s, a music festival is taking place in the heart of Weston that will capture a small part of that era.

In 1967, almost 100,000 young people gathered in San Francisco’s neighbourhood of Haight-Ashbury to create what became known as ‘The Summer of Love’, a meeting of the free-spirited for a summer of peace, love, unity and some amazing music.

Almost 50 years since the end of the 60s, a music festival is taking place in the heart of Weston that will capture a small part of that era and some of the best music from the following decade.

The Winter Gardens, built in 1927, is the perfect iconic venue for the event, as, during the 1960s, artists such as Gene Vincent, Cilla Black and Pink Floyd played here.

In the 1970s, it hosted artists including David Bowie, Deep Purple, Slade, Mott the Hoople and T-Rex.

If you enjoy songs from The Mamas and the Papas, The Small Faces, The Monkees, Simon & Garfunkel, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, The Doors, Rolling Stones and The Beatles, this festival is definitely for you.

With lots of other gems and an invitation to don your finest 60s and 70s attire, this weekend event, organised by Reaper Events, promises you a trip back in time for all the best reasons.

The Lipinski Brothers, who have been entertaining audiences for more than 20 years and are well known for their brilliant delivery of music from this era, will be headlining on the Saturday, with an incredible set suitably entitled ‘The Summer of Love’, a celebration of 60s hits.

Weston’s very own Eastertown is also included in the Saturday line-up, while on the Friday night Rebel Heroes, one of the best David Bowie tributes in the UK, will be performing some of the greatest hits from The Thin White Duke.

The Friday night will also see a two-hour set from headline act Gimme Some Lovin, playing soul, Motown and classic music from the 60s and 70s.

All this and more takes place at the Winter Gardens on May 31 and June 1.

Also at the Winter Gardens and organised by Reaper Events is the 40th Two Tone Anniversary gig on June 22.

This event will feature the brilliant Neville Staple Band, The Beat Goes Bang and Mr Two Tone himself, Jerry Dammers, will be playing two DJ sets.
