Honestly - I cannot resonate enough with what everyone else has said. He was a very good teacher, always up for a laugh and to help anyone. I have some very fond memories of his classes. He helped me after hours with personal soldering projects from home (I made a metronome) which I greatly appreciated. The fondest memory was definitely when his class was the first of the day, the class next door started playing the radio really loudly. Without a moment’s hesitation he replied, we will compete with that in a minute. After the register had been done, sure enough, he blasts a different radio station louder. Which happened to be playing the new song bring me to life by evanescence. Rest in peace Mr Rivers.

I am so sorry to learn of this sad news. Mr Rivers was always a great teacher and fun with it. He is the reason I decided to become a Design and Technology teacher. I want to thank him for his time and patience - even if he had to come round my house to collect my GCSE coursework before marking! He inspired me to do my best. My thoughts are with the family. There's always one teacher that you specifically remember from school for various reasons. Luckily for me it was my CDT teacher Mr Rivers of class '88 because he was kind, friendly, helpful, inspirational, happy and very knowledgeable. So many great memories of him and his class. I think it was Fridays I had triple CDT last thing, talk about end the week on a high! He had expert knowledge and the most amazing sense of humour I've yet to see in anyone else I've ever met so far (52 years old). The folding caravan that he 'invented' is always a fond memory. It's partly down to Mr Rivers, Mr Barry, and Mr Williams that teased out my woodworking skills that I didn't know I had and ended up where I am now as senior cabinetmaker at Artichoke cabinetmakers making furniture for clients all over the world. Couldn't and probably wouldn't of done it without you Mr Rivers. Such a sad loss, I will definitely be having a drink in your memory, cheers!

Rest in eternal peace Mr Rivers, we connected straight away as we had the same surname, you took me under your wing and the fun I had with a soldering iron in your class I will never forget! You tried to fix my ghd hair straighteners, took them home and felt gutted that you couldn’t get to the problem but you still did that, kind caring soul who will never be forgotten, some people stick in your mind forever and you sir are one of those. See you in the next life

Charlie was a wonderful teacher and I know, having heard from several school friends, we would all like to raise a glass to him. Are there any funeral details, or is that a family only service? Kate

So sad to read the news of our brilliant 'Rivz', Charlie was an absolutely incredible teacher and tutor that we had for so many years at Worle school but he was much more, a caring person with such a fun sense of humour. He could always make me smile. He meant well and supported myself and so many others. He got to know you and was so genuine, He has always emailed over the years with cards and I will miss our yearly bits of banter at those times of year. What an absolute legend he is. Sending love and light to all his family. Gemma xxx

I’m so shocked and saddened to hear of Charlie Rivers passing. He was the most amazing tutor, teacher, and friend. I was so happy when I made contact again a few years back with Charlie. He was the nicest man ever, and said he still had the wooden motorbike I’d bought him many years back when I left school :) He also offered amazing advice and support when needed. The world has lost a legend. Xxx
