YOUNG people will get the chance to enrol on an apprenticeship course with Weston College next month as it hopes to recruit 300 apprentices in just 50 days.

The college aims the scheme will help to upskill existing staff and bring new recruits to the job market as the country battles the 'great resignation'.

Figures show the UK employment rate remains below pre-pandemic levels but the number of vacancies are still high, as soaring inflation caused a fall in average wages over the same quarter.

Amidst a cost-of-living crisis, workers are said to be resigning en masse in favour of fairer pay. 

“We are passionate about creating brighter futures and are really excited to be launching this campaign, continuing to buck the apprenticeship trend," Weston College principal Paul Phillips, said.

“We all know how difficult it can be to recruit, but with apprenticeships you can bring in a brand new generation of employees to your organisation, or you can upskill your existing staff through bespoke initiatives.

“With the rising cost-of-living, we are seeing that individuals want to broaden their horizons to increase their earning capacity."

The campaign began on September 26 and will run until November 25.
