THE environment will be celebrated at a programme of events to take place in Weston later this month to discuss creating a 'greener future for all'.
It will see panels, workshops and films teach people about the devastating impacts of climate change.
The festival - Green Futures - will take place at venues across town on October 28 and 29.
Green Futures has been funded by Arts Council England, Weston Town Council and North Somerset Council and supported by Culture Weston.
Friday, October 28
- ‘The Ants and The Grasshopper’ free documentary film screening
Taking its title from an Aesop’s fable, where a grasshopper asks some ants for food, this documentary is centered on the effects of climate change in Malawi.
Loves Café, West Street, from 7pm to 10pm.
Food must be booked in advance.
Saturday, October 29
- Screenings of ‘The Ants and The Grasshopper’ at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm at The Sovereign.
- Community and Climate Action Fair
A drop-in session will invite members of the public to chat with representatives of community-led action groups including Weston Food Clubs, Cleaner Coastlines and local council Climate Officers to find out more about making Weston a cleaner, greener, fairer place to live, work and study.
It will be held from 10.30am to 2pm at The Sovereign.
- Green Utopias: Storytelling & Collage Workshop
Draw a storyboard, pen a poem and write a short story to share your stories of a green future.
It will be held at Weston Artspace from 11am to 1.30pm.
- Your Dream Green Future
Until November 13, at Weston Artspace, residents can 'describe their dreams' for a greener future.
- Grow Feral: Tour & Talk
At the Italian Gardens from 2pm to 3pm a community micro garden will be displayed.
- Coastal Towns & Climate Change: Panel Discussion
A panel discussion about the future of coastal towns will consider the risks and opportunities presented by climate change.
The Sovereign is to host the event from 4.30pm to 6pm.
A short film called After the Flood, featuring stories from local flood survivors, will also be screened.
