TRAFFIC speeds could be halved in a North Somerset village, a council has said.
Residents of Hutton are being asked to share their views on changes to the current speed limit which currently stands at 40mph.
In the plans drawn up by North Somerset Council and Hutton Parish Council, a 20mph speed zone will be introduced around the village.
The scheme also creates 20mph gateway signs into Hutton and the removal of 40mph speed limits to the west of the village.
There will be no changes to parking.
Roads to be considered as 20mph include: Vereland Road, Moor Lane, St Mary’s Road, Main Road, Hutton Hill, Church Lane, Holm Road and Wisteria Avenue among others.
Residents can attend a drop-in session on October 27 at Hutton Village Hall between 1pm and 6pm which will be attended by officers from both councils.
A formal consultation will then be held where people will have just 18 days to submit any rejections. It will close on November 14.

North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for highways, Cllr Steve Hogg, said: "By creating a safer environment to walk and cycle around the village we hope to encourage more people to leave the car at home."
