AN IMPORTANT Hindu festival was celebrated with many famous faces of Weston at an event earlier this week.
On Monday, October 24, the North Somerset Bangladeshi Association and Indian Community of North Somerset organised a night of food, song and dance to mark Diwali, the festival of light.
The five day event symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil in Hinduism.
More than 150 people from across the community attended Hornets R.F.C along with Weston mayor Cllr Sonia Russe, the High Sherriff of Somerset Jennifer Duke, and retired deputy Lord Lieutenant of Somerset Tom Lang.
Cllr Russe said: "Last night we attended the third day of the Diwali Festival of Light at Hornets.
"We all helped in the lighting of the Diyas. A traditional Bangladeshi meal was also served by Pappadoms together with singers, dancers and fireworks.
"It was a very special evening - thank you to everyone who helped me celebrate it."
