PEOPLE will get the chance to visit See Monster for a further two weeks, organisers have said.

In an announcement made last night (October 27), the 33-metre high, three-storey North Sea gas platform will remain open to the public until November 20.

This is 15 days later than previously expected. 

It is now hoped the extended stay will top-up visitor numbers. 

On the platform, displayed at the Tropicana in Weston, is a wind turbine, solar tree, two-storey slide and almost 1,000 trees and other foliage.

Organisers New Substance believe the attraction will 'reimagine conversations on climate change and inspire the next generation of forward thinkers'.

It said: "Due to our popularity, we will now be staying open an extra two weeks so there's more time for you to plan your trip to Weston and come on board the beast."

See Monster is part of a national exhibition on UK creativity following the Brexit referendum in a festival known as Unboxed. 

Earlier this month it was confirmed the National Audit Office (NAO) will investigate Unboxed - which holds charitable status - after MPs brandished it as a 'monumental waste of money'.

The free-to-enter art exhibition will now be open for 57 days, but visiting times have been restricted due to poor weather. 

If See Monster reaches capacity every day until it closes, it will have met around 170,000 people - this is just 30,000 shy of its 200,000 visitor target. 

A myriad of setbacks and delays caused the attraction to arrive more than two months later than first planned and it has also been engulfed in controversy surrounding Unboxed's calculation of visitor 'engagement'.

The festival previously suggested 66million people had 'engaged' with the ten major projects across the country because they had 'read us in newspapers and watched us on TV'.

North Somerset Council's deputy leader, Cllr Mike Bell, said: "It's fabulous to hear tonight that See Monster is staying in Weston for a little longer.

"This is something I’ve been pushing for with colleagues so I’m glad more people will get the chance to see it.

"It has proved popular, bringing people and interest to our town."

Weather permitting, See Monster is open from 9am to 9pm every day. Last entry is at 8pm.
