A COMMUNITY shop to help those struggling to afford food and reduce waste in Weston has celebrated its first birthday.
The Fridge of Free Stuff is a community fridge located in the Sovereign Centre and opened its doors in November last year.
Its primary aim is to share surplus food within the community so as to reduce food waste going to landfill.
Now more than 20tonnes of carbon dioxide and equivalent greenhouse gases have been saved from permeating in the atmosphere.
There are also plans for the fridge to help signpost other volunteer projects within the community on a dedicated website which can be accessed at www.fridgeoffreestuff.co.uk.
The project forms part of a collaborative effort by Weston Town Council, North Somerset Council, WsM Helping People and the For All Healthy Living Centre.
