FILMMAKER Corry Raymond, 28, from Montpelier, won Best British Drama at this year’s Discover Film Awards in London last Sunday (October 2).
The international film festival attracted filmmakers from around the world for its prestigious award ceremony and screenings in London’s Prince Charles cinema in Leicester Square.
The short film, Blurred Lines is based on the Robin Thicke/Pharrell Williams vs the Gaye family estate plagiarism trial from 2014.
The inspiration came from one of Paul Raymond’s (Corry’s dad) popular music lectures at Weston College, where Paul would discuss the drama behind the scenes of famous pop songs.
Corry said: “It’s fun to think that a seed planted in my dad’s popular music course would one day grow into a piece of work which has brought international screenings, and now an award at Discover Film Awards”
Despite being set in LA, the film was made entirely in the UK with an international cast, and three of the five crew are originally from Weston-super-Mare.
Fellow Weston-super-Mare filmmaker Farah Siddiqui, 24, also worked on the film producing a behind-the-scenes video to accompany, as well as Corry’s brother Louis Raymond, 25, who worked on the sound.
