A PROBE into the shooting of a 31-year-old man in Wick St Lawrence has been launched by a police watchdog.
Yesterday (November 28), two armed officers from Avon and Somerset Police fired 'a number of shots' inside a property in Wick Road where a man suffered 'serious chest injuries' at around 11.30am.
He was later admitted to Southmead Hospital, Bristol, by ambulance where he remains in a 'critical but stable condition'.
It followed a house search at around 11am where four officers were conducting an investigation into possible firearm offences.
A police watchdog has today confirmed it is investigating the non-fatal shooting.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said enquiries have now started at the scene of the incident.
A spokesperson said: "We are continuing to oversee forensic work at the property today and have obtained initial accounts from the officers involved.
"A possible non-police issue weapon was recovered in the vicinity of where the man was shot. It will be subject to further testing.
"We are continuing to analyse officers’ body-worn video and are conducting house-to-house enquiries in the immediate vicinity. We will also be gathering more detailed statements from the relevant officers."
The IOPC regional director, David Ford, continued he will examine the force’s planning prior to attending the property and police actions and decision-making during the events that transpired.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary says it notified the IOPC immediately following the shooting and that 'conclusions should not be drawn about what took place'.
Chief inspector Adam O’Loughlin, said: "We are committed to being open and transparent and are fully cooperating with the IOPC, providing it with all the access and material it requires.
"In the meantime, we continue to carry out our own investigation into offences which we suspect have been committed.
"No arrests have yet been made and enquiries are continuing."
A cordon remains in place on Wick Road.
He added: "We’d like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while we remain at the scene and the wider public for their support in relation to this incident."
