TWO friends are setting up a microbrewery in the centre of Weston-super-Mare, writes John Wimperis.
Sam Cureton and Tom Adams, originally from Bristol and Portishead but now in Weston, have both worked in bars the town and are now turning 127 High Street in the Grove Park Village area into their own place.
Fat Head Brewery will brew its own beers and sell them in a taproom on the premises.
Mr Cureton, who has previously been a brewer with Pitchfork Ales, said: “The range is going to be quite broad but I would say that we are going back to more traditional types of beer.”
But he added that he was not going to put them in a pigeon hole. He said: “It’s going to be varied. We are not going to stick to one style of beer.”
As well as their own beer, the taproom will also sell locally-produced Somerset wine and soft drinks. Fat Head Brewery’s taproom will sit up to about 25 people, and be open 11am to 11pm to begin with.
Mr Cureton said: “It’s just designed to come and relax. It’s all about the beer really, more than anything.”
Biowaste from the brewing process will be composed locally for use in the local community.
The plans to convert the place into the brewery got the go ahead from North Somerset Council’s planners on Monday July 24.
Fat Head Brewery hopes to open in mid to late August.
