NORTH Somerset Council are carrying out specialist repair work on Weston's coastal defence sea walls.
North Somerset Council's Nature and Climate team are carrying out work near Anchor Head.
This includes repairing cracks in the wall, as well as replacing mortar and some missing stone blocks.
Residents may have spotted contractors abseiling down the wall as they carried out this specialist repair work.
These Victorian walls have been storm damaged over the years, meaning that, if left unrepaired, they will be much less effective in their function.
It is hoped that this will help improve their resilience as flood defences and help protect the coastal town.
Once this is completed, the team will move on to repairing Clevedon's sea walls, which will include cordoning off some areas to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
The total cost of the two projects is expected to be £237k.
A spokesperson from Nature and Climate North Somerset team said: "Work continues to restore damaged coastal flood defences.
"Storm damaged Victorian sea walls in Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare continue to be repaired and restored to improve their resilience as flood defences.
"Our contractors can be seen abseiling down the sea wall near Anchor Head in Weston-super-Mare while they carry out this specialist repair work.
"They are repairing cracks in the wall, as well as replacing mortar and missing stone blocks. This work will continue into September.
"They will then move on to Clevedon to repair the Victorian sea wall behind Marine Lake.
"There, they will replace mortar, remove vegetation and repair coping stones.
"We want this work to have minimal impact on people, including pedestrians and lake swimmers.
"Some sections of the wall will need to be cordoned off, and the width of the lower promenade will need to be reduced.
"The steps down to the lower promenade will also need to be closed for a short time to allow the nearby section of wall to be repaired.
"Thank you in advance for your patience while this essential work is carried out.
"The work in Clevedon will last around three months in total, depending on weather conditions.
"The total cost of the two projects is around £237k."
