A BRASS band from Weston-super-Mare are set to celebrate their 60 year anniversary with a commemorative concert at the Blakehay Theatre.
Weston Brass was founded in 1963, adding a new dimension to the seaside town's musical heritage.
Sixty years on, the band continues to promote brass band music and community music education.
27 members make up the band, one of whom has been a member for 53 years.
Dave Farmer, who has been a Weston Brass member since 1970 said: "The camaraderie is fantastic in our band; everyone works together as a team to be successful.
"When our audiences enjoy our concerts, the experience is brilliant and makes all the hard work worth it.
"The band has a more professional outlook than when I first started playing in 1970, and the music has changed so much too.
"Marches, waltzes and overtures have been replaced with film scores and popular classics.
"I have loved my time playing in this band- you make friends for life in a band, and you can’t ask for more than that."
The youngest member is just 18 years old, which is nothing out of the ordinary among this diverse bunch of musicians made up of several professions, including mortgage advisors and nuclear engineers.
Weston Brass chairman, Paul Field, said: "I’m so proud of what the Band have achieved over the years and our 60th anniversary year gives us a fabulous opportunity to celebrate everything about Weston Brass in true style.
"The standard of musicianship in the band is growing all the time under the leadership of our amazing MD, Ian Dickinson and we’re looking forward to showcasing that in the events we have planned for the rest of the year."
The band's upcoming celebratory concert will be inspired by events from 1963 such as Martin Luther King’s "I have a dream" speech, the Profumo Affair, and the Beatles visit to the Birnbeck Pier in Weston-Super-Mare.
Weston Brass will be joined by soloist Tom Hutchinson, principal cornet for the world’s number one ranked brass band, The Cory Band.
The concert will be held on October 7 at the Blakehay Theatre in Weston, with tickets priced between £10 and £12.50 available to purchase on the Blakehay Theatre website.
