IN 2017, the cast of 18th-century drama Poldark were spotted filming in Cheddar Gorge.
The cast were seen filming the third series of the hit show, an adaptation of the fifth and sixth novels in Winston Graham’s Poldark series.
The scene the crew were filming was the Festival of St Sawle, a village celebration in which an intense brawl took place.
Speaking at the time, the show’s publicist, Lisa Vanoli, said: “They are filming at Cheddar Gorge – the scene is Sawle Village Green and it is the Festival of St Sawle – a big village celebration.”
The film crews and production teams took over the village's Cliff Street car park.
The series is set in the late 18th-century and follows Ross Poldark (played by Aidan Turner) as he returns from the American War of Independence to his Cornish copper mines.
In the third series Poldark tries to rebuild his marriage to Eleanor Tomlinson’s Demelza, but their peace is disturbed by the arrival of Methodist brothers Sam and Drake Carne (played by Tom York and Harry Richardson).
