A COASTGUARD rescue team was called to help locate a missing person thought to be in Brean Down last month.
Crew members from the Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team were called out at around 2am on September 12.
The missing person was previously thought to be in Weston. The Weston Coastguard Rescue Team had been helping police in the search.
Updated information put the individual in the Brean Down area. A police drone was deployed whilst a search was carried out on foot.
However, no one was found and police decided to move their search further inland, where they eventually located the person.
Posting on Facebook, a spokesperson from the Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The team was tasked just before 2am to reports of a missing person.
"Our flank team Weston-Super-Mare Coastguard Rescue Team had been working closely with the police searching for a missing person thought to be in the Weston-super-Mare area.
"As the search continued into the night, more info came in that put the person in our area.
"So after an early wake up call, we set out into the night towards Brean Down.
"On arrival at Brean we met up with our fellow Coastguards from Weston and one of our Senior Coastal Operations Officer and a search plan was put in place.
"Search teams were deployed on the top of Brean Down, searching the fort and all surrounding accessible areas.
"Once completed all accessible areas along the top of the down were searched on foot and by police drone.
"While this was happening, more search teams were busy checking all the areas surrounding the down.
"This was an extensive search that had started in the early evening in Weston and continued well into the morning covering a good amount of rough ground.
"After saturating the area with nothing found, we were stood down and police concentrated their efforts further inland.
"For many of the team, we finished just before the working day started so there was no time for a nap, just straight into the day.
"A protracted multi agency search that was due to continue later in the day but we were informed that the police had located the person from their inland search.
"Emergency along the coast? Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
