THE woman who died at a holiday park in Brean last week has been named.

On Wednesday, October 25, police officers were called to Diamond Meadow Lodge Park off Weston Road at around 4.50pm.

On arrival, they found a 59-year-old woman with a significant injury.

Despite their best efforts, the woman died at around 5.20pm.

Police officials have said that although formal identification has yet to take place, they believe the victim to be Denise Steeves.

Her family have been informed and will be offered support by  a specially trained family liaison officer.

Police arrested 70-year-old Simon Steeves, who was believed to be Denise's partner, at the scene. Steeves has since been charged with murder.

He appeared at Taunton Magistrates' Court on Friday (October 27).

Avon and Somerset Police said this is an isolated incident and that there is no further risk to the wider public.

Officers will continue to remain in the area whilst they carry out a "full and thorough" investigation.

They will also offer reassurance to residents who may feel unnerved by what has happened.

Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) Detective Inspector Neil Meade said: “Formal identification has yet to take place, however we believe the deceased to be Denise Steeves.

“Her family has been fully updated on this development and our continued thoughts are with them as they come to terms with what has happened.

“We will continue to carry out a full and thorough investigation as this case progresses.

“There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area and our officers are still available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.”
