DRIVERS are being warned that there could be some delays getting to and from Bristol Airport due to essential electricity network improvements.
National Grid Electricity Distribution is installing new extra high and high voltage cables along a kilometre stretch of the A38 at the junction of Downside Road. This is part of a £300,000 investment which will replace the deteriorated cables from the 1950s.
The work, which has started now, is expected to take around eight weeks and is due to finish by December 22 at the very latest.
Four-way traffic lights are in place in both directions of the A38 near the airport, as well as on Downside Road and West Lane.
These will be manually controlled from 7am to 7pm.
Area team manager for National Grid Electricity Distribution, Lewis Smith, said: “We’ve been working closely with North Somerset Council to manage the traffic and are looking to complete this work as safely and promptly as possible.
“However we understand that roadworks can be frustrating and apologise for any delays and inconvenience caused as a result.”
