STUDENTS in Weston spent a day this month remembering those who had fallen in conflicts around the world.
Hans Price Academy (HPA) chose November 9 to host a series of remembrance events.
1,050 students attended an assembly to learn more about the meaning of the red poppy, which is a symbol of remembrance and hope for a brighter future. This was followed by a minute's silence.
During break and lunch times, students were encouraged to make their own poppies, which were made into a piece of artwork and put on display.
Year nine students have been investigating the question 'who should we remember?' and first-person narrative accounts were used with a tie into Remembrance Day.
Mark Tong, programme leader of Humanities, said: “It was fantastic to see our community come together in acts of remembrance.
"Many of our students are in the cadets or emergency services and wore their uniforms with pride.
"We spoke to students about service: this takes courage and is selfless. How the whole community came together today exemplifies our Hans Price values.”
