WESTON Civic Society will be holding a meeting next week to discuss the history behind the town's flood defences and how climate change could impact them.
The meeting will be hosted on Monday, January 8, from 7.30pm in Weston Museum.
Coastal engineer from The Environment Agency, John Buttivant, will be attending to give his insight into the reasons why the Severn Estuary is at risk of flooding, as well as discuss how the defences are currently being managed.
Entry costs £2 for non members, members can attend for free.
Contactless is accepted.
The talk is one of a series held by the Environment Agency, which has launched a campaign to raise flood awareness.

Saturday January 27, 9am-noon – Weston seafront, between the Victorian Café and Beach Café;
Monday, January 29, 2pm-6.30pm – Victory Hall, Westfield Road, Uphill;
Friday, February 2, 1pm-4pm – Co-op, High Street, Worle;
Monday, February 5, 4.15pm-7pm, Village Hall, Crookes Lane, Kewstoke;
Tuesday, February 6 – 10.30am-2.30pm, The Sovereign, High Street;
A more in-depth event will be held at Weston Museum, in Burlington Street, on Thursday, February 1.
Weston Civic Society are also on the lookout for recommendations on high quality improvements made to Weston during 2023.
In the past, awards have been given for shop front improvements, murals, building facades and front wall gardens.
