A number of Jill Dando News students have been writing real-life positive news stories in memory of the journalist after a visit by her brother.
30 new journalists aged nine and 10 at St Anne’s Church Academy welcomed Nigel Dando, who himself carries 48 years of journalistic experience.
He briefed the pupils about his sister's life, imparted his expertise in journalism and taught strategies for writing engaging news headlines and stories.
Every student has taken on the inventive task of discovering a delightful pet animal anecdote that can bring cheer to audiences in the New Year.
Jill Dando News was established in 2017 at Jill’s old school, Worle Community School Academy, as a tribute to her illustrious career.
The project has attracted a rapidly growing number of over 100 students aged eight to 18 within its ranks.
It equips them with practical media skills and building their self-confidence.
Principal Emma Hardy-Smith said: "It was brilliant to have Nigel with us and the reporters are super excited to find and write up their stories."
Nigel Dando reciprocated the sentiment: "It's wonderful to see the enthusiasm shown by the youngsters for finding and writing news stories.
"The work of the news centres is a tribute to Jill and her memory."
With budding reporters scattered across Somerset, the students interview not only community members but also prominent celebrities.
Elijah, a former St Anne's pupil, had the honour of interviewing the Prime Minister twice, once at The King Alfred School Academy and then again in Downing Street at the tender age of 9.
They also interviewed TV icon Fiona Bruce for trade secrets to guide their young ambitious journo-entrepreneurial journey.
