TWO Weston businesses are hosting multiple events this week to celebrate Independent Venue Week.

Running from January 29 to February 4, Independent Venue Week is an annual celebration of music and art venues, as well as the people who run them.

Loves Café

West Street's Loves Café is hosting two events this week.

On Friday (February 2) from 8pm, Welsh musician Sweet Baboo will be bringing indie-pop and folk-infused music to the stage.

Sweet Baboo is the alter ego of Stephan Black, whose career has spanned over two decades, in which time he has released seven albums.

This is followed by a performance by Welsh guitarist Gwenifer Raymond from 8pm on Saturday (February 3).

Gwenifer, who started playing guitar at age eight, has appeared at London Jazz festival, Bridge Festival Eindhoven, Clonkality Festival, and Cambridge Folk, to name a few.

Tickets are priced at £10 and can be purchased on the Loves Weston website.

Posting on social media, a spokesperson from Loves Weston said: "Since we opened our doors in 2009, we’ve been championing and programming Unique, Interesting, High Quality, Intimate, Original shows, and so many people have come through our doors from far and wide, to watch, listen and to play.

"We decided to get involved with @ivw_uk this year especially, because venues across our country are having a tough time, with many closing their doors for the final time because of the every day challenges small businesses are facing.

"We wanted to be part of this fantastic platform in 2024 to celebrate all things great about Independent venues, and ask you to join us in doing so."

The Brit Bar

The Brit Bar is also celebrating the week. Tickets for the events can be purchased on the company's website.

A spokesperson from the venue outlined what's going on: "We have a Weston College and University night on Thursday from 7.30pm, featuring up and coming local artists Lilac Sunday, Pavilion, The Like Minded and The Koppers (free entry).

"We have our local Jam Night on Friday, which is a mash-up of local musicians and people looking for a band performing an array of musical styles from 8.30- 11pm (free entry).

"Then Saturday night we have the amazing Life In Mono, supported by Miss Kills and Bohemia, which is a 'pay what you think is fair' gig."
