The mayor of Weston-super-Mare visited Jill Dando's old school to meet student reporters writing in her memory.
Ciaran Cronnelly engaged with the eager Jill Dando Journalists at Worle Community School Academy (WCSA) in Somerset.
It is the birthplace of the first ever Jill Dando News Centre, which was established in 2017.
Mr Cronnelly offered valuable advice to the young reporters, urging them to seize opportunities and bolster their self-esteem.
He said: "Push yourself towards what you think you might achieve, not what you know you can achieve."
Mr Cronnelly, who has been serving as mayor since May 2021 and became a councillor in 2019, also hoped that the students would promote the youth council to increase participation.
WCSA provides a vast range of opportunities for student development, with clubs focusing on various interests like music, drama, arts, and sports, aside from a thriving careers programme.
Established in memory of former student and celebrated journalist Jill Dando, the Jill Dando News Centre enables young journalists to uncover and report good news, fostering attributes such as kindness, humility, and positivity.
