THE Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the North Somerset area.
Earlier this week, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain, which came into effect at 2am today, and will remain in place until 6am tomorrow (Friday, February 9).
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Periods of heavy rain will bring the possibility of some disruption, particularly to transport."
In the alert, the Environment Agency said river levels have responded to today's rainfall, which is expected to be followed by a 'further band of rainfall', heavy at times, this evening (Thursday, February 8), before moving out of the area around 10 PM.
A spokesperson added: "Further showers are forecast during Friday morning.
"The river levels on the Congresbury Yeo will remain high into Friday.
"Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Congresbury Yeo, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around roads at Wrington and Iwood."
Thankfully, no property flooding is expected at this time.
Those residing in the affected area are advised to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and urged to not attempt to walk, cycle or drive through flood water.
Flood alert area: Rivers in North Somerset including Congresbury Yeo, Cheddar Yeo, Axe and tributaries.
