A PLANNING application has been submitted to convert part of a Weston gym into a residential unit.
Validated on April 2, the application for Unit 4 on Churchill Road Business Centre reads: "The change of use of a proportion of first floor from Class E (gym) use to 1 No. 3-bed C3 residential unit and the conversion of roof space, with formation of gable ends to east and west elevations, to form second floor with 2no 1-bed C3 residential units.
"Dormer introduced to the north roof slope. Existing Class E use to be retained to ground floor and part first floor."
The Design and Access document, written by Gibson Architecture, explains further: "This proposal is for Unit 4, Churchill Business Centre which currently accommodates a gym and associated parking.
"Due to rising running costs, it has become necessary for the gym to reduce its footprint to the ground floor only.
"The building will require extensive works to improve the thermal fabric to comply with current building regulations and local climate / emissions targets. In order to justify this economically the use of the first and second floor will need to be changed to domestic housing.
"The existing condition of the building is reasonable; however, it will require extensive renovation to meet current standards, as well as to ensure high quality living accommodation."
