IN 2014, an unexploded bomb was discovered on a Somerset beach by an unsuspecting teenager.
The World War Two relic was found at St Thomas’ Head in Kewstoke at 8.30pm in April of that year by 14-year-old Isaac Davies, who was out fishing at the time.
Emergency services were informed, and a 500m cordon was placed around the area until the Royal Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit arrived from Plymouth.
Navy officials waited until high tide so the explosive was covered in 6ft of water to minimise any risk, before carrying out a controlled detonation at about 7pm.
Bombs, torpedoes and more have been found in North Somerset throughout the years.
More recently, four training torpedoes located in an old Weston MOD base were destroyed. They had caused issues over the years with multiple reports from dog walkers.
