Students at an academy in Weston-super-Mare are spearheading a campaign to plant trees in their school grounds.
A student committee at Hans Price Academy have taken the lead ahead of their elders when it comes to the environment by collaborating with the Woodland Trust to plant 80 trees around the school.
The team responsible for organising the donation of oak, birch, and willow trees comprised of the academy’s student eco committee and a group from the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
Hans Price’s latest tree planting frenzy is the third instalment of the academy’s campaign with the Woodland Trust, and it brings the total number of trees planted on the site due to donations to an impressive 240.
Dr Watts, Second in Science and Eco Coordinator at Hans Price, said: “The overarching goal of this initiative is to ensure that the trees planted will flourish and we hope these trees will be a firmly established part of the school by the time the students planting them are old enough to bring their children to Hans Price.”
The Woodland Trust is a leading environment charity that aims to provide opportunities for tree planting across the UK.
The charity’s website says: “We aim to make sure everybody in the UK has the chance to plant a tree, so we're giving away hundreds of thousands of trees to schools and communities.
“Together, we'll get millions more trees in the ground."
