Loose dog in Weston Village causes puncture wounds to person's leg

A North Somerset Neighbourhood Policing spokesperson said: "Yesterday (May 1, 2024) afternoon at around 16:30 hours, our colleagues from the response team attended a 999 call in Bransby way, Weston Village, following a report a member of the public had been bitten by a loose dog suffering puncture wounds to their leg which was treated with first aid.

"The incident was initially attended by a single crewed officer who had to deploy PAVA spray against one of the dogs.

"Additional officers arrived from our dog handling unit and were able to safely contain and capture the the dogs which are currently in our care. All officers and dogs are safe, well and uninjured.

"Investigations are currently ongoing and PCSO's from the Worle Beat team will be attending the area to conduct CCTV checks, house to house, and reassurance visits.

"We know there are lots of concerns around dangerous dogs and some confusion around the law. In this case, the animals are not XL Bully dogs.

"We would urge anyone with a dog to ensure that you are able to properly secure your dogs in the garden of your home with locked gates and fences.

"If you own a dog that might be aggressive or hard to handle, we would strongly advise seeking out dog trainers and suitable restraints such as muzzles and other control methods like slip leads.

"Ultimately, taking such measures will ensure that you, your dog, and other members of the public are safe. We do not enjoy having to seize dogs which we all know are our family members like any other, so anything dog owners can do to be responsible and keep everyone safe and secure will benefit us all.
