PUPILS from a Weston school have been spreading joy at Alliance Homes’ Dementia Day Service at Tamar Wellness Centre.
As part of Dementia Action Week (May 13-19), students from Priory Community School have been visiting the centre to build connections with Dementia Day Service customers.
This scheme, which is delivered in partnership with North Somerset Council, helps to "enrich the lives" of those living with dementia.
Recently, they've been painting rocks and creating art pieces that symbolise what brings them joy, what they want for the future, or something they're proud of.
Laura Hayes, Day Services manager, said: “The young volunteers help enrich the lives of our customers. Interacting with children helps those living with dementia spark memories and encourages communication.
"It’s heart-warming to see the genuine connections being made and the students’ enthusiasm.”
Roza, 13, is one of the regular visitors.
She said: “I enjoy hearing past stories of the patients’ grandchildren and children.”
Carolina, 12, added: “I was a bit nervous at first, but they’re really nice and amazing people.”
