A FORMER pole and lap dancing club in Weston-super-Mare could soon be turned into flats.
The second floor of the building on the corner High Street and Regent Street has been a string of lap dancing clubs over the years, most recently Red Shadow.
But now it – along with the floor below it used as extra retail space by CEX – could be turned into eight flats.
A hallway for the flats will run through where the lap dancing club’s gents' and ladies' toilets and private booths had previously been located.
Another set of private booths will now be the location of one flat’s combined kitchen and living room.
Four of the flats will have two bedrooms, and four will have one bedroom. There will be bike storage located on the ground floor.
To access the flats, occupants will enter through what had been the door to the lap dancing club — which will get new signage.
A statement submitted with the planning application said: “The proposed residential flats would include suitable sized rooms, ample natural light, fire escape provisions, adequate sound insulation and a pleasant outlook over the High Street.
“This application seeks to refurbish and reconfigure the building to a high standard, which includes the retention of the existing retail units and the creation of eight residential units which can be added to the housing stock.
“All materials proposed for the conversion and refurbishment would be sympathetic to the existing property and local vernacular. The street facing elevation would be refurbished to a high standard with no alterations to the existing form.”
Costa and CEX will remain on the ground floor and are not part of the application.
The impressive three-storey building is believed to date from the mid-1800s but is not listed.
