The mayor of Weston-super-Mare, John Crockford-Hawley, visited Stanley's Garden in Worle as part of his busy D-Day schedule.
Accompanied by his deputy, Martin Williams, the leaders were impressed with the facility.
Mr Crockford-Hawley appreciated the community-focused approach to the garden, which was designed to offer a relaxed setting for those with dementia and learning difficulties.
The mayor said: "This is just the sort of community initiative that is so important, bringing those with dementia and learning difficulties into a quiet and friendly environment where anxiety can be put to one side.
"It’s truly wonderful.
"David Skidmore and friends are to be congratulated for their excellent work in Worle."
David Skidmore and a team of willing neighbours transformed the once neglected land into a sensory oasis.
The garden now serves as a venue for various activities, stimulating memory and learning.
In addition, Muriel’s Gardening Club was established, providing therapeutic gardening activities for those aged 55 and over.
The garden, and the club as part of it, aims to foster positive mental health and emotional well-being within its visitors.
