CLEVEDON School has announced a new strategic partnership with several universities that will allow students to join green energy research projects.
The school will work with the universities of Bristol, Cambridge, and Oxford, as part of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Centre for Doctoral Training in Superconductivity.
The project will run from 2025 until 2032.
Postgraduates from the universities will engage in projects at Clevedon School giving students expert insight into superconductivity and innovations in the production of green energy; improved health care and quantum technologies.
As a symbiotic partnership, Clevedon School teachers will give training to the postgraduate students on effective oracy and engagement with school-aged children.
As part of this development, Clevedon students will develop their own outreach projects in conjunction with the universities and these industrial partners.
Professor Antony Carrington from the University of Bristol said: "We are delighted that Clevedon School has joined our training alliance, as this will give real-world experience to our postgraduate students in public engagement.
“The aim is to promote awareness and to encourage school students, particularly of under-represented groups, to target a career in these technologies of the future."
Jim Smith, headteacher said: “This is a really prestigious project and I am delighted we have been selected to be part of the scheme.
“It will offer so many opportunities in a vitally important area of science and engineering.”
