WESTON-SUPER-MARE Cricket Club has submitted plans for a new cabin to be used as a changing room for female players.
Boddingtons Planning, a multi-disciplinary planning and sports facilities practice known for their work in football stadia development, motor racing circuits and grassroots sports facilities, wrote the design and access statement for the proposal.
The club hopes these scheme will support the “boost in the interest in the game for girls and women” as schools encourage more girls to play cricket, in part thanks to the success of the England national side.
The statement says: “The building would be placed alongside the existing pavilion overlooking the pitch to allow for ladies to play in the same way as men, where changing takes place as the game progresses rather than all at the same time at the start.
“The modular buildings are utilitarian but not uncommon in locations such as these and are a practical way of introducing decent quality facilities fast and effectively rather than having an expensive and time consuming project which will delay the introduction of the game to ladies.
“The changing room will allow better use of the cricket club to the benefit of the female members at which it is aimed to enable to start playing this season and to the youth programmes that the club is implementing.
“They will not harm the appearance of the area or the amenity of the local residents.”
