A SEVEN-BEDROOM House of Multiple Occupation (HMO) in Weston-super-Mare could be turned into two self-contained residential apartments.
The existing end terraced property at 83 Locking Road, is a three-storey, seven-bedroom HMO dwelling house with a frontage area providing four off-road parking spaces and a recycling/waste bin collection area.
The property, has explained by a planning document, could be converted into self-contained apartments for five people.
The document read: “The property is constructed from a traditional masonry solid wall construction faced externally mostly with a white external paint or render, with some natural stone wall areas to the rear.
“The pitched roofs are covered with concrete large format roof tiles with the flat roof areas covered with a single ply flexible membrane.
“The HMO house sits on a level site. It is not in either a conservation area, an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty (AONB) or Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), but is within a Bat Zone C area.
“The property is within the Development Management Policies Housing policy DM39 – restricted sub-division of properties, plus the Weston and Gateway Regeneration Areas.
“The property is evidently in need of some regeneration internally and externally.
“The current HMO use has not been kind to the building or its community balance (i.e family appropriate accommodation for more professional occupiers) or to the rejuvenation of the local area.
“This proposed will someway contribute to correcting that.
“The proposed works will have no impact on the local ecology as there are no external building works (only internal).
“However, there will be a watching brief given to the eventual builder to note any impact on protected wildlife habitats (such as bats), so that if any are found during the alterations process, the NSom environmental ecologists department is to be contacted immediately for advice.
“The scheme would hope to go some way in supporting the North Somerset plan to re-balance the character, appearance and a socially mixed community identity of surrounding area.
“The two separate apartment designs offer flexible layouts that will meet the immediate and future needs and lifestyles of the property occupants.”
