RESET WSM’s Youth Awards Ceremony has awarded Alliance Homes’ Young Carers Support Service and one of its young carers with the titles of Children’s Support Champions and Caring champion.
In July, Reset WSM, a Community Interest company, held this year’s Youth Awards to celebrate children and young people in this region who have showed determination and praise their achievements.
In North Somerset, The Young Carers Support Service, which is part of Alliance Homes’ wider Carers Support, continues to help over 600 children and young people from aged five to 18 years old.
It offers a range of support from essential respite from caregiving duties to chances to partake in recreational activities and trips.
This service is funded by local fundraising groups such as The Nani Huyu Charitable Trust and the North Somerset Council.
Jane Hingston, Alliance Homes’ Young Carers Coordinator, said: “It’s a real honour for our service to be recognised.
“This award reflects the incredible contributions and sacrifices of all the young carers we support”.
“It’s a privilege to be able to help these children and provide them with the essential respite they deserve…Unpaid carers are the unsung heroes of our communities”.
Chelsea Cox, a 15-year-old with Alliance Homes’ Young Carers service, was awarded with the Caring Champion title.
Chelsea assists with caring for her brother and sister, who have autism.
“I couldn’t believe it when I won! I had a great experience at the event, celebrating with other young carers and the carers service,” Chelsea said.
Laura Argrave, an Alliance Homes’ Carers Service Manager who nominated her for the award, said: “Chelsea is a great role model- selfless, supportive, and incredibly strong… We’re over the moon to see her recognised as a Caring Champion”.
Casey Cox, Chelsea’s mother, added: “I couldn’t be happier when I found out shed been nominated and won. Children don’t often get the recognition they deserve; I couldn’t be prouder of Chelsea”.
