A DEVELOPER has announced the successful approval of its reserved matters planning application for the development of 77 new homes at Meads Fields in Weston-super-Mare.

This milestone marks a significant step forward in bringing the Backhouse bespoke collection of one, two, three, and four-bedroom homes to the local market.

The Mead Fields development is set to deliver a residential community that caters to a diverse range of homebuyers.

Backhouse said the development will have a strong emphasis on contemporary design creating a vibrant, sustainable, and well-connected neighbourhood, which will contribute positively to the housing landscape in Weston-super-Mare.

To maximise biodiversity potential, bat, bird and bug boxes will also be installed and a variety of native trees planted to support the local ecosystem.

In addition, large swathes of public open spaces are to be provided around the wider site for enjoyment by new residents.

It also marks the company's entry into its first consortium development, where it will introduce the Backhouse product alongside a number of other housebuilders.

The plans form part of a wider neighbourhood of 1,400 new homes granted planning permission by North Somerset Council, with proposals for new community amenities including a primary school, public open space, and sports facilities.

The new homes at Mead Fields will offer a variety of layouts and styles, ensuring there is something for everyone—from first-time buyers to growing families and downsizers.

The development’s design reflects Backhouse’s commitment to delivering light, spacious homes that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, with an emphasis on enhancing the overall living experience.

Ian Jones, CEO of Backhouse, said: "We are thrilled to have secured full planning approval for our Mead Fields development.

“This achievement is the result of the dedication and hard work of our entire team, as well as the consultants who have worked tirelessly on this scheme.

“Their expertise and commitment have been invaluable in navigating the planning process, and we are excited to bring this exceptional development to life in Weston-super-Mare."

Michelle Hyde, development director at Backhouse said: “We are delighted to have secured this scheme to add our bespoke homes to the new community of Mead Fields.

“The shortage of homes in the UK has been exacerbated throughout 2023/2024, which in turn, has meant the demand for housing is increasing.

“Backhouse remains committed to securing prime site locations to meet the growing demand for housing.”

With planning approval now in place, Backhouse will now move forward with the next phase of the project, which includes preparing the site and commencing construction in the coming weeks.

Backhouse is currently busy constructing over 300 homes across five developments in The Cotswolds, Swindon, Wiltshire, and Somerset.
