THE Marine Lake in Weston-super-Mare will be kept closed “for a little while longer” to allow scaffolding removal from the site.
The lake, which was closed on Monday, September 9, was going to re-open today (September 16) after improvement works.
A message from Weston Seafront (North Somerset Council) said: “We closed the lake on Monday, September 9 for improvement works.
“Although we were hoping to reopen the lake today, we’re keeping the lake closed for a little while longer as there’s scaffolding on site that needs to be removed.
“We’re planning to reopen the lake on Wednesday (September 18), and we’ll post further updates on this page.
“We closed the lake so we could:
- Work on the sluice gates
- Undertake surveys
- Complete enabling work on the lower walkway
“This work supports our wider plans for Marine Lake which include improving walkways, steps and ramps, and other enhancements of the area including upgrading and re-opening the public toilets.
"This work is due to be completed next year.
“This is part of a programme of work made possible thanks to our successful bid for £20m from the UK government.

A spokesperson for the company providing the scaffolding, said that they were informed that the work was completed at 8am this morning (September 16) and they would like to make it clear that they will be removing it tomorrow after the high tide.
