After enrolling in Formula Woman in September, giving her only a few months to prepare for an assessment day, Weston’s Charlotte Ozanne has secured herself a place in the finals of the competition.
23-year-old Ozanne is now one step closer to being one of the four winners who will race the McLaren 570s GTS in the GT Cup later this year.
The assessment day involved several tests and challenges which put each competitor through their paces.
Some of the assessments included a recorded media test which emulated a race interview; a written test to assess general racing knowledge; and a circuits-based fitness assessment where drivers scored average, fit or super fit on a range of exercises.
The headline test was the on-track assessment in which Charlotte was instructed by former F3 driver Kat Impey in the Vauxhall e-Corsa.
"It has been great getting involved in this competition, and meeting so many like-minded women," Ozanne said.
"This is a fabulous opportunity that Graeme Glew and Formula Woman have created and it’s great to see how many women from all over the world have entered. Motorsport isn’t just for men and it is movements like this that prove that women are just as fierce in any given discipline.”
“I’d like to thank Simon Strange and the team at Drive Vauxhall Weston for letting me test drive the e-Corsa before my assessment day. That outing gave me the confidence to push myself in my on-track assessment as I already had a good feel for the car and the way it handled and responded.
I’d also like to thank PT Susan Hurd at Worle gym for assisting me in my fitness journey to make sure I’m race fit for the finals!”
The finals will take place in March at a location yet to be confirmed.
The 75 finalists, out of over 800 applicants, will once again undergo more challenges and race together for a chance to be one of the top 15 who will progress to the next stage.
