SOMERSET players have been in action all over the world in recent weeks, with the pick of the bunch being our spin-star in Pakistan.
Jack Leach claimed the all-important final wicket today as England defeated Pakistan in dramatic fashion to claim victory in the first Test in Rawalpindi.
Chasing 343 for victory, Pakistan began the day in a strong position of 80 for two. Only nine runs had been added to the overnight total when former Somerset batter Iman-ul-Haq fell just two runs short of his half century.
Saud Shakeel (76), Mohammad Rizwan (46) and Azhar Ali (40) put the hosts in a strong position, but the final five wickets fell for just nine runs and when the review confirmed that Naseem Shah had been trapped in front by Jack, England had pulled off a remarkable victory by 74 runs in one of the most exciting Test match conclusions in recent years.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore played a pivotal role as Deccan Gladiators claimed a second consecutive Abu Dhabi T10 title at the weekend.
The Gladiators overcame New York Strikers in the final by 37 runs to lift the trophy for a second year in a row.
Tom was named Batter of the Tournament after smashing his way to 289 runs from 10 innings at an average of 48.16 with a strike rate of 192.66 and a best of 82 not out.
Tom Banton also impressed in the competition for Delhi Bulls with 190 from seven matches with a best of 46 at a strike rate of 175.92.
James Rew had another weekend to remember in Australia.
The young ‘keeper/batter has excelled for UTS North Sydney this winter and he helped himself to another two half centuries this weekend.
James made 51 from 54 balls in his side’s Poidevin-Gray Shield T20 match against Sydney at the Drummoyne Oval, as UTS came out on top by six runs.
Somerset Women Captain, Sophie Luff has also bee in good form Down Under for Parramatta, where she is playing First Grade Cricket. Her outstanding knock of 101 not out against Sydney recently saw her side take the top spot in the competition table.
