Weston's Jodie Fieldhouse is preparing to take on the highly competitive GP 2 class at Bennetts British Superbikes for the 2023 season.
Fieldhouse, 23, is as far as we know the only female in the UK to race a GP 2 bike and will be riding an Ariane 2 Moto 2, which was built in 2013 by Spanish company Arianetech Engineering.
Fieldhouse will begin at Silverstone for the first round on Easter weekend - April 7-9 - ahead of starting winter training next month.
“I'm looking forward to the 2023 season riding the Ariane 2," said Fieldhouse.
"We worked so hard as a team in 2022 and I learnt so much and progressed a lot. The bike is one of three in the world and has its very own complexities which make it more of a challenge but one I am very much enjoying as it’s pushing me on to have a better understanding of it and be a better rider.
"The team and I are currently working hard to get the bike race ready for the new season and I am counting down the days until I can go winter testing!”
Fieldhouse fell in love with the sport after a trip to a local karting centre on a mini moto in 2015, age 15, having never been on a motorbike or in a race paddock before.
Since then Fieldhouse has been very successful on various different smaller cc bikes at club level racing but made the decision to move to British level in 2018-19 on board a Moto 3.
After two years out due to the pandemic Fieldhouse and her team completed their rookie year at BSB on board the Ariane in 2022.
Mother Rachel Fieldhouse told Weston Mercury Sport of her pride for her daughter and says as a family they are excited to see what 2023 will bring.
She added: “Jodie’s love of motorbikes came very much out of the blue at the age of 15 and took us very much by surprise.
“Racing at British Super Bike level is not something we ever expected to be doing as a family, but the passion she has for the sport she loves and the determination she has to succeed is second to none.
“She has come so far in such a short space of time and we are very proud of her. We are looking forward to supporting her through 2023 to seeing what she can achieve.”
