Weston-super-Mare CC's Lauren Filer said all she wants to do is go out and enjoy the occasion in her first England game tomorrow.
Filer, 22, is set to make her international debut in a one-off Test against Australia, that marks the start of the multi-format Women’s Ashes at Nottinghamshire’s Trent Bridge.
Filer, who is one on two uncapped players named in England’s Test squad, has taken eight wickets in four matches in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy in 2023 and five in the Charlotte Edwards Cup for Western Storm in her first season as a professional.
Filer has played her club cricket for Weston ever since she first appeared for the side as a 10-year-old.
And Filer said she first heard she had been named in the squad after a conversation with Jon Lewis.
“It was really nice to hear, obviously I am really excited and it’s a very exciting day tomorrow.
“I am looking forward to it, I just want to go out and enjoy it really but it’s nice to know Weston-super-Mare CC are backing me all the way.”
Filer said she is full of pride to have this chance to play for England and is grateful to have messages of support from a lot of people, which will help when she takes to the field in the morning.
“I feel extremely proud to have this opportunity, it’s a very proud moment,” she added.
“My family are all really excited. I am really looking forward to it and I know the whole club is behind me.
"I had multiple messages from everyone so I feel I am in good stead for tomorrow with all the support behind me.“
