THE Treasurers Trophy at Brean GC was played in its usual format of a Greensomes Stableford at the weekend.
But for the first time it was played in memory of David Barthram who was the Club Treasurer for many many years until his passing in September 2022.
A shotgun format was deployed with 27 pairs taking to the course and Pat Barthram, David's widow, was on hand to present the Trophy to the winners at the conclusion of play.
The winning score was a superb one of 45 points compiled by Keith Sargeant and Chris Hubbard. They completed their winning round with a nett eagle on their final hole, the 16th.
This was crucial to move them ahead of husband and wife duo John and Bev Cranley who scored 43 to take the runners up spot. Four teams returned 41 points and the computer was required to separate these by the countback system.
It was Scott Miles and Bob Pelzer who got the verdict and collected the third place prize with the best back nine of the quartet.
Phil Barry claimed the Bogey Trophy on Saturday for a second time. Nine years after the silverware had first headed in his direction he produced a superb round of +7 against the course to secure the 2023 edition. He finished one better than Runner Up Ian Rogers who chased him hard with an impressive +6 return. The leading duo had a healthy advantage over the third and fourth placed golfers and it required a countback to decide their finishing order. Both Kevin Davies and Rob Perry posted scores of +2 but Davies enjoyed the superior back nine to take third with Perry settling for the fourth and final prize.
Two nett 65's were posted in a day of improved scoring in the second round of the Seniors Eclectic meaning the computer was called into action to decide the winner. Both Mark Banczyk-Gee and Brian Read owned the cards of 65 and it was ultimately a poor hole at the 3rd which won Banczyk-Gee the event. His recovery from an 8 included a better back nine than Read and saw him claim top spot. Read had to settle for second with Mel Brown taking third with his nett 66.
The Seniors October Stableford was contested over 16 holes due to buggy path construction taking place on holes 9 and 10. With the poor weather forecast and the rain falling during the morning it was just a hardy few that took to the course. Leading the way on 32 points, effectively level par for the 16 holes, was Tony Richards. His margin of victory as one from Ian Adams with Roger Hurrell finishing third on 30.
