Weston CC head of cricket Rob Turner says Keynsham CC will provide his side with a “good challenge” on the opening day of their 2024 WEPL Premier 2 Bristol and Somerset season.
Weston face Keynsham at the Frank Taylor Memorial Ground on Saturday May 4.
It is the second time in successive campaigns the two sides will play each other in their opening match.
“It’s always nice to start at home, but starting away means a finish at home,” Turner said
“Keynsham is a good challenge. They’re a good young side. We’ll be targeting the first four games to set up the rest of the season.
“We’ve got competitive games against some good Prem Two sides and promoted sides.”
Turner said Weston’s aim is to get off to a strong start and to put themselves in a “good position” near the top end of the league or to ensure the long-term development of players.
“Our target will be to get off to a good start in May and put ourselves in a good position to either push at the top of the league, or develop players for the longer term benefit,” he added.
“We’ve got some new players joining who’ll add competition for places and strengthen both the firsts and seconds, with the seconds a big priority for us to succeed and close the gap.”
