Weston CC will continue to expand its female only cricket this year and confirmed girls cricket is returning to the club permanently.
Weston will be running two taster sessions in March and then running regularly throughout the summer from Saturday April 13, offering fun, safe and inclusive sessions for children between the age of eight and 12, focusing on the fundamentals of cricket, teamwork and building confidence. Al kit will be provided.
Club Secretary Nicky Clarke, who oversees women and girls development, told the club’s website: “The popularity of women and girls cricket has skyrocketed recently both nationally and locally, and we’ve grown from one women’s softball team to a softball and hardball team for 2024.
“The next step is for us to relaunch girls cricket at the club as almost a third of our All Stars last summer were girls, and we were able to run a girls only Dynamos programme too.
“We’re so lucky to have Lauren Filer representing the club, she’s an amazing role model and is paving the way for the next group of girls starting their cricket journeys so, I’m really excited that we are taking the next steps to creating a sustainable women and girls pathway at Weston.”
