NEW Somerset CCC signing Jake Ball has said he is excited and ready to go for the upcoming season.
Jake Ball was in Taunton at the Cooper Associates County Ground this week to meet his new teammates and see the facilities.
The 32-year-old left Nottinghamshire after 15 years and said he is looking forward to continuing his cricketing journey in the West Country.
"I've been down here looking at what Taunton has to offer, looking at a few houses but I am looking forward to my time here in Taunton," he said.
Ball added that he hopes he can bring experience to the young Somerset squad in 2024.
"Every time I have been down here I loved playing at the ground. Over the last couple of years the pitch has got better for bowling as well so in that sense I am looking forward to get going," he added.
"I think it is a great young set of lads, it has had a little bit of rebuilding stage with a lot of great lads coming through and I am looking forward to add what I can to that and hopefully we have a successful season."
The bowler said the last year has been frustrating for him due to injury but insists he has a lot of cricket left in him.
"Last year was a frustrating one for me but looking ahead I still have a hell of a lot to offer the game," he said.
"I think coming here is going to refresh me, and give me a fresh challenge and hopefully I can put in those performances out on the field."
In terms of goals for the season ahead, Ball has set some high targets, in white and red ball cricket.
"T20 this side has been amazing always getting to finals and last year winning it, so winning trophies in white ball," he said.
"In red ball, it's about getting out there and putting back to back games together, I haven't done that over the course of the last couple of years.
"So being able to get on the field and take wickets in back to back games, it is a tough schedule in the County season, so to get through that and contribute to wins, the side is in a position to challenge for a championship, so hopefully we can do that."
