Weston Avalon Golf’s B team looked strong in their opening fixture of the 2024 campaign.
The Weston Avalon B team had made sure they were ready for the new season having held monthly meet ups over the winter focusing on match play golf.
This match play included the individual Winter Eclectic stableford competition, and this was convincingly won by Matt Cassidy, scoring a magnificent 50 points from just two rounds.
The team’s opening fixture was at home verses Burnham and Berrow Channel on a sunny but windy Sunday.
Lewis Dingley and Mike Dale went out first and secured a comfortable win at six and four up, and this position was strengthened when Matt Cassidy and Ben Neary came in four and three up.
Things got tight when Avalon went down in matches three and four with Rodney Hornsveld and George Williams, and Lewis West and Steve Cocks both narrowly losing out, but the final pairing of Keith Jackson and Andy Logan made sure of the team victory with a five and four win.
An added bonus was Damion Spearing winning his reserve match scoring seven and six.
So a winning start to the season, and one Weston Avalon will hope to follow up on in their May fixtures which are both at home against Long Sutton and Cricket St Thomas.
