Weston Golf Club hosted the first of its four mixed opens on Sunday April 28th and it was attended by a large field of 76 players hailing from a variety of clubs and courses from around the region.
The weather was very kind with blue skies and a brisk wind off the sea, a change from the recent gloom.
Despite a plethora of visiting golfers, the winners were the Weston based pairing of Jenny Cousins and Neil Reed.
Both players are relatively new to the club, and they won on the back nine with 43 points, finishing ahead of second place Janet Beal and Anthony Brewis.
The format this year has changed to give visiting golfers more time on the course and better value for their money when entering the competition.
Previously it was a greensome event, where both players in a pair tee off and then only play with the best ball, but it has now changed to a fourball format which means higher points score and a bit longer on the course as both players get to play every shot.
